Interior Painting

When getting ready to paint a interior, whether its a hand rail or the entire home their are a few things to consider.

1. COLOR: Bold colors add depth and texture to a room, but are often left as accent walls. Consider the emotion of a color, what feelings do you want when you step into the room. Test a few small areas first, look at your color choice in natural light throughout the day and in your overhead lighting; colors change with light and samples are cheaper then repainting a room after the fact.

2. TYPE: Sheen selection is important. Each type of sheen has both advantages and disadvantages. Flat Paint has 0-10% gloss  but is truer to color. Eggshell is 10-25% gloss and is not easy to clean but great for ceilings. Satin is 25-35% gloss and is easier to clean, often the choice for walls. Semi Gloss is 35-70% gloss and is often used for trim, very easy to clean.High Gloss is 70% gloss or higher.

3. PREP: It is important to repair all imperfections before painting. This takes time, but will greatly impact the end result. Primer is important. It covers up past colors and also adds a clean layer for the new top coat. This allows the new primary color to adhere better giving a quality end result. Keep in mind one coat of top paint is often not enough to give a professional look. Account for multiple coats when preparing and keep in mind keeping a little extra for future repairs.

4. TIME: Be realistic about your timeline expectations. Talk clearly with your professional about timeline expectations; How long will the job take? When can we expect the work to start? Does the customer need to be home? These are all questions to ask/consider before the start of a job.
